WASH

Clean water is the difference between a difficult situation and a deadly one. When displacement concentrates people into crowded compounds with no safe water and no latrines, disease follows within weeks.

Water supply

We rehabilitate and construct water points so that communities do not have to choose between a long, unsafe walk and drinking from a contaminated stream. Where a permanent solution is not possible, we support water treatment at household level and distribute storage containers.

Sanitation

We construct and rehabilitate latrines and bathing facilities in communities, schools and health facilities, designed so that women and girls can use them safely and with dignity — lockable, lit where possible, and separated by sex.

Hygiene promotion

Infrastructure alone does not stop disease. We work with community hygiene promoters to run practical sessions on handwashing, safe water storage, menstrual hygiene and the early signs of cholera and other waterborne illness, and we distribute soap and hygiene kits alongside them.

Working with communities

Every water point is handed over to a community management committee trained in basic maintenance and small repairs, with women represented on the committee. A borehole that nobody can repair is a borehole that works for one dry season.
